Gangs back in Coney? The Warriors revisit their old stomping grounds this August 2nd

The Netflix Rolling Roadshow celebrates classic American movies by screening them in the locations they helped make famous. And to kick of the Rolling Roadshow – first up to the plate with bats in hand are “The Warriors”.
Each screening will include cast reunions and question-and-answer sessions with the filmmakers. As well as a special interactive event for each screening. Interactive? No, this is not smell-a-vision. This is something more.
In the movie, a rival leader kills Cyrus and the Coney Island gang called "The Warriors" is wrongly blamed for his death. Quickly, the cops and every gang in the city are after the Warriors. In the film, the Warriors make their way from one end of New York to their home turf back in Coney Island.
So, too, will your gang run the gauntlet, traversing all five boroughs on the subway if you
choose to join "The Warriors Subway Scavenger Hunt."

The scavenger hunt will take place before the movie.
1:00 PM
97th Street and Riverside Park
Manhattan

Here is the scenario:
The Warriors Subway Scavenger Hunt
Teams can sign up in groups of nine delegates. All participants are requested to be in full "colors", just as gang members are in the film. Cyrus will be there to kick off the rally and give your team instructions. The team that arrives at the screening location first with all aspects of the scavenger hunt completed wins.

Grand Prize:
Nine leather "Warriors" vests, and an August 3rd brunch with the cast and crew of The Warriors!

If you get to the screening in one piece – the movie goes on at:
8:30 PM
Asser Levy Park amphitheater
Between Sea Breeze and Ocean Parkway at W. 2nd street (off Surf Avenue)
Coney Island, NY

Good luck and please scavenge safely.

[Parachute Jump Lighting Ceremony video clip will be posted here through YouTube.com]

The switch was flipped and a new chapter began as Coney's Parachute jump awoke to life, adorned with a brand new outfit laden with dazzling colored lights and flickers. The oohs and aahhs rumbled along the boardwalk as all eyes beamed up towards the darkened sky awaiting the mark of a new beginning in Coney's latest revival.

Koby Wins Again !

6th Consecutive Weiner Crown
Koby (53.75) fights off challenge from Chestnut (52)
Takeru Kobayashi of Japan ended the 2006 Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog contest as champion once again, setting a new world record of 53 and 3/4 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes.

But not with a major challenge from rookie Joey Chestnut of San Jose, CA, who set a new American record of 52 Hot Dogs and buns in 12 minutes.
Chestnut led Kobayashi for the first half of the contest, establishing a two hot dog lead before falling behind the five-time winner from Nagoya. By the 10 minute mark, Chestnut was a dog and half behind and could not mount the comeback necessary to win.
Never before, however, has an American performed so well against Kobayashi and never before has an American been so galvanized by a sports hero. The crowd of more than 30,000 cheered Chestnut on throughout the contest, but especially in the final minutes chanting "Joey", "Joey".
Sonya Thomas placed third with 37 hot dogs and buns.
"The
Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest has become a highlight of America's greatest patriotic holiday," said Waynbe Norbitz, President and COO of Nathan's Famous. "It epitomizes the spirit associated with summer each year."

Happy 4th of July !

As the Curbed blog presented a few days ago. This is just an idea of what the Coney Island Parachute Jump will look like when it's all lit-up and prettyfied. The new era for the structure (Brooklyn's Eiffel Tower) starts this Friday, July 7th at 9pm.

Though the skies over Coney were quiet and tame this 4th of July - the park and beach still bustled. This Friday the fireworks are back.
