New Group To Save Coney Forms

The Coney Island United is a newly formed group began as an informal meeting of various people with a similar common goal; a desire to preserve the integrity of Coney Island's history in it's future. Those individuals include Rev. Connis Mobley of the United Community Baptist Church, Aurthur Lenick of the City Streetcar Company, Charles Denson of the Coney Island History Project, James Prince of Major Meats, and others. Their mission statement is:

The purpose of Coney Island United is to create and move forth an agenda for the preservation and enhancement of the Greater Community of Coney Island; the preservation and upgrading of services for the existing residential community; the updating of the crumbling infrastructure; the improvement and expansion of the already existing amusement area; the restoration of Coney Island to its former glory as America’s Playground for those of every means.

Coney Island United's agenda is all inclusive, encompassing all elements in Coney Island united for common cause.

A few posters at the Coney Island USA message board feel that another group to 'save Coney' is lessening the strength of one organization is confusing and spreading our messages too thin.

Their main concerns address the burden the community would face on its infrastructure if they city and developer's plans of high rises would place of Coney Island's already weakened infrastructure. Besides the website of
Coney Island United
nothing has been heard of them.
