The city's revised plan was first announced two weeks ago in a New York Times article. It's therefore only fitting that the best criticism of the plan should be found in the Village Voice's Neil deMause article:Coney Island historian Charles Denson was shocked to hear, in a phone call the night before the Times piece ran, that the city was switching gears. "The original plan was a compromise, and I supported that completely," says Denson. "In exchange for saving the amusement area, they were allowing 5,000 condos at the outer edge. Now it's such a reversal --although it does preserve a small amusement area, it's so completely different from what they'd initially proposed that you have to wonder what's going on behind the scenes."

Omar - I told you at the one time I met you at the November meeting where Kruger and Recchia showed up screaming - It's over. It was over already then. We all knew there was no way the city plan would get through.
The new city plan is fantastic, and so is Thor's plan. Coney will become a 365 day a year entertainment mecca for Brooklyn, providing jobs and tourism. Hotels, movie theaters, Restaurants and indoor and outdoor amusements in the core.
Coney has always been and will always be first and foremost a Brooklyn neighborhood. I expect resolution by June. The narrow view of Coney that the internet blogs have did not win and never had a chance to begin with. I'm sorry, you may consider that insulting, but its true.
The CIDC was started by Bloomberg to develop Coney year-round. Its accomplishing that mission. Thank G-D!

Amen, to that MUSCLE13. I really admire what Bloomberg administration was able to come up with that beautiful plan for CI. All the new attractions and roller coaster idea that will start from one side and end on the other end. I just hope CI amusement district will not be downsize and let them build condos. I only see positive outcome with new upcoming changes. A true iconic American playground for new upcoming generation.
People who speaking out against new redevelopment are bunch depress individuals. I hate going to CI lately because it’s a slum.
