Marty Markowitz's comments in his State of the Borough Address that the Parachute Jump's lighting needs "more bling" set off quite a controversy, which has yet to be resolved. The Times recently sought to get a 'man on the street' angle on the issue, by reporting from the Coney Island video arcade, Faber's Fascination.
One of the people interviewed in the article- a local mother and Parks Department employee named Audrey McLeod- summed up the Parachute Jump's current charms: "To me, the lights are more romantic than spectacular. They're not bright to catch your eye or anything, but maybe for a couple walking on the Boardwalk."
