The city purchased the B&B Carousel- Coney Island's last old wooden carousel- in 2005, and intends to use it as the centerpiece of the Steeplechase Plaza in the new Coney Island amusement area. But first the carousel needs to be restored. Local TV personality Rapid T. Rabbit has posted a very word of mouth update on the B&B restoration situation on the Coney Island USA message board:
Sal Napolitano at the Central Park Carousel just told me today he recently heard from organ restorer Gavin McDonough who in turn told him that Carousel Works was not awarded the contract to restore the B&B Carousel, instead it went to the only other company that bid on the work. It's not the other company in Ohio either but a firm that's "smaller" than Carousel Works.
At the moment, it seems, it remains unclear exactly who is restoring the carousel, let alone how long it will take them. With a projected completion date of 2019 for the redeveloped amusement area, though, one would imagine that the B&B will be done in time.
