The Late Dreamland Artist Clubhouse

Some photos were posted today on RIOTT of the recently closed Dreamland Artist Clubhouse. The Artist Clubhouse was located on Surf Ave., and strove to function as both a contemporary art space and an old school sign shop at the same time. Coney Island was an ideal neighborhood for this long project, considering that so many street artists over the past few years have been drawing on the sort of old time signs and imagery exemplified by the Coney Island boardwalk and sideshows. One such street artist is the legendary ESPO, aka Stephen Powers, who was the Clubhouse's main organizer. In an email he sent out last month, announcing the Clubhouses's closure after three years, Powers made point of thanking the many arts organizations which had supported the project, including Coney Island USA.
